Do You Know the #1 Reason for Total Comfort System Failure?

There’s something that isn’t often mentioned in our industry. It’s a “dark and dirty” secret, you might say. (And I do mean dirty.)

The Number 1 Reason for system failure is not age, or brand, or lightning, or that someone plays with the thermostat WAY too much. The #1 Reason for system failure is dirt.

And the reason this isn’t exactly well known among homeowners is due to something you’ll instantly understand: A new system costs thousands of dollars. Yet a maintenance program to prevent system failure is just pennies on the dollar. Now you know.

At American Star we feel it is our ethical duty to educate you on ways to A) Save money, B) Save time, C) Save you hassle and headaches. Especially when we know a better way. And believe me, what I have to tell you is much better than waiting for a system failure… Annual Maintenance!

American Star Maintenance Club

Let me introduce you to your enhanced American Star Maintenance Club program. Our membership plan includes an air conditioner and furnace tune-up each year, along with priority emergency service, and discounts. Each plan now has different features such as discounts on repairs or no dispatch fees and trip charges.

Our Energy Savings Agreement is a way to ensure that A, B, and C happen for you! Plus a whole lot more. How?

Well, you won’t have to even think about “remembering” your service schedule. We do it for you. Oh, and you’re guaranteed to save more energy dollars as an Energy Savings Agreement member. Plus you have documentation that you have followed the manufactures requirements if you have a warranty. Just these two little benefits can pay for your Membership! But – as they say in the commercials – there’s more…

And that’s peace-of-mind, which is impossible to put a price on. You’ll get Priority Service – even on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Your equipment will last longer. And you won’t have to wonder if you’re taking good care of this incredibly complicated machinery in your home… you will be. Guaranteed.

Maintenance Checklist

Maintain your equipment to prevent future problems and unwanted costs. Keep your cooling and heating system at peak performance by having a contractor do annual pre-season check-ups. Contractors get busy once summer and winter come, so it's best to check the cooling system in the spring and the heating system in the fall. To remember, you might plan the check-ups around the time changes in the spring and fall.

  • A typical maintenance check-up should include everything to make sure that your equipment is working at its peak performance and is safe for your family.
  • Check thermostat settings to ensure the cooling and heating system keeps you comfortable when you are home and saves energy while you are away.
  • Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause unsafe operation of your system and reduce the life of major components.
  • Lubricate all moving parts. Parts that lack lubrication cause friction in motors and increases the amount of electricity you use.
  • Check and inspect the condensate drain in your central air conditioner, furnace and/or heat pump (when in cooling mode).
  • Check controls of the system to ensure proper and safe operation. Check the starting cycle of the equipment to assure the system starts, operates, and shuts off properly.

Cooling Specific

  • Clean evaporator and condenser air conditioning coils. Dirty coils reduce the system's ability to cool your home and cause the system to run longer, increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.
  • Check your central air conditioner's refrigerant level and adjust if necessary. Too much or too little refrigerant will make your system less efficient increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.
  • Clean and adjust blower components to provide proper system airflow for greater comfort levels. Airflow problems can reduce your system's efficiency by up to 15 percent.
  • Indoor quality inspections to make sure you are getting the most of your system.

Heating Specific

  • Check all gas connections, gas pressure, burner combustion and heat exchanger. Improperly operating gas connections are a fire hazard and can contribute to health problems. A dirty burner or cracked heat exchanger causes improper burner operation. Either can cause the equipment to operate less safely and efficiently.
  • Check gas sensors and ignitors to make sure that the correct amp draw is correct
  • Clean, Vacuum all components and complete a final inspection. We go over everything that we have cleaned and checked to make sure that we did a great job.
  • Check carbon monoxide screening and that your carbon monoxide alarm is current so that your family is safe.
  • Indoor quality inspections to make sure you are getting the most of your system.
